3 Benefits of Blogging for Small Businesses

Date January 29, 2008 By

If you are a small business owner who would like to see the business expand its clientele and increase its profits, it’s a good idea to investigate the possibility of starting a blog for your small business. There are many marketing benefits associated with small business blogs.

1. Affordable Way to Promote Your Own Business
One of the biggest challenges that today’s small business owners face is finding a way to allocate a sufficient amount of money to their marketing efforts. One of the great, yet often overlooked, benefits of Internet advertising is that you can use websites to advertise your company’s business to current and prospective customers.

You probably already have a main business website that provides information about your company’s products and services. If you add a blog to your online presence, you now have a second website. Since it’s your website, you get to control what goes on it. You can place ads for your business directly on the blog. They can link to your main site, provide customers with printable coupons, or any other type of information you choose.

2. Additional Source of Revenue
Most small business owners realize the importance of establishing multiple sources of revenue. Not only does your blog provide you with a free place to advertise your own business, you can actually make money from the site by allowing others to place their marketing messages on your site.

When you’re just starting out, the best way to generate revenue from your blog is to place pay per click or pay per performance ads on the site. Every visitor to your blog site has the potential to bring revenue to your business. If they click on a pay per click ad or purchase something from one of your pay for performance vendors, you’ll be earning what’s known in online marketing as passive revenue.

3. Encourage Repeat Customers
Since blogs are updated on a regular basis, customers and prospects who are interested in the things you are blogging about are likely to go back to your blog again and again. Of course, while they are they are on your blog, they’ll se advertisements for your company. Every time prospects see your marketing messages, the chances that they will do business with you, either for the first time or on a continuing basis, increase. In advertising lingo, multiple ad exposure is referred to as frequency, and frequency drives buying behavior.

Just the Beginning
These are just a few of the many benefits of starting a small business blog. Almost every small business can benefit from an attractive, well written blog that contains useful information that appeals to its target audience.

We’ve been using a blog to promote our own business for years now. It really helps and helps us to focus other marketing, too. We naturally cross post between our blog and our flyers, etc.. It really works.
